Electricity I (Grades 10, 11, 12)
The Electricity I course is designed to being preparation of students to
perform entry-level tasks under the supervision of an experienced
electrician. Industrial/ Residential
Electricity I students receive training on safety, the nature and generation
of electric power, basic electrical circuits, circuit components, the
calculation of circuit values, reading and interpreting blue prints,
electrical circuit repair and maintenance and the installation of interior
wiring and devices. In addition to the
basic principles and elements of industrial/ residential electricity systems,
the students receive instruction in the use of test equipment. National Electrical Code regulations and
the measurements of voltage, current, resistance, and power in single phase
and three phase circuits. Field trips
and quest speakers are a part of classroom instruction. First year of two-year program. (2 credits)
Prerequisite:
74 or better in Algebra A and B is recommended

Electricity II (Grades 11, 12)
The second-year student in electricity receives training in the following
areas: safety, AC and DC motors and
generators, motor control circuits, industrial control relays, single phase
and three phase transformers and circuits, AC and DC electronics and
components, National Electric Code and repair and maintenance of industrial/residential
electric equipment and circuits. The
“hands-on” training includes working with instruction test sets as well as
actual electrical motors and equipment.
This program allows students who perform well to exempt certain
courses at Orangeburg-Calhoun
Technical College.
Field trips and guest speakers are a part of the classroom activities
Students also will have the opportunity to register with O-C Tech for seven
(7) college credit hours upon completion of the National Electric Code and
residential portions of the course. At this time this will be done at no cost
to the student. (2 credits)
